Jalon or Xalo

For some real traditional Spanish flavour, why not take a day trip out from Javea and visit the gorgeous little village of Jalon, or Xalo as it is also known.

It’s a stunning little town with a very popular market on a Saturday and can be really bustling!  The streets are typically Spanish and charming and the architecture is wonderful throughout. There are plenty of bars and cafes to keep you fed and hydrated as well as some unique shops, bodegas and restaurants.

Walking and Scenery

The area is extremely popular with hikers and cyclists – and even has its own dedicated cyclist bar! The surrounding countryside is breathtakingly beautiful, so it’s easy to see why it’s so popular with those wanting to explore the outdoors.  There are some lovely walks that start and end in the village and even just exploring some of the quiet country lanes behind the village is a real treat.

While you are out there, do take the time to explore some of the smaller villages too – they are extremely pretty and are surrounded by mountains and picturesque scenery throughout.

How to Get There

From Javea, we would recommend taking the route which passes through Pedreguer, Llosa de Camacho and Alcalali – the scenery is stunning and the roads are really good.  You can go from Gata de Gorgos and pass through Lliber, which is fine, but the road is a little narrow and winding.  It takes around 35 minutes to drive to Jalon/Xalo, but it’s definitely worth it!

Happy Holidays!
